ISO 45001:2018 standard

ISO has developed a new standard, ISO 45001, Occupational health and safety management systems - Requirements, that will help organizations reduce the burden of occupational injuries and diseases, both for employers and the wider economy, resulting in losses from early retirements, staff absence and rising insurance premiums by providing a framework to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions, all over the world.
ISO 45001 is applicable to all organizations, regardless of size,
industry or nature of business. It is designed to be integrated into
an organization’s existing management processes and follows
the same high-level structure as other ISO management system
standards, such as ISO 9001 QMS and ISO 14001
EMS.
ISO 45001 enables organizations
to put in place an occupational
health and safety (OH&S) management system. This will help
them manage their OH&S risks
and improve their OH&S performance by developing and
implementing effective policies
and objectives.
ISO 45001:2018 replaces OHSAS 18001. As per the transition plan, OHSAS 18001 certified organisations have three years to migrate to the new standard ISO 45001:2018.

The much awaited 2015 editions of both ISO 9001 QMS and ISO 14001 EMS were published by ISO on 15th September, 2015.
Speaking on the occation, ISO Secretary-General Kevin McKinley said “ISO 9001 allows organizations to adapt to a changing world. It enhances an organization’s ability to satisfy its customers and provides a coherent foundation for growth and sustained success” and “ISO 14001 is something that organizations can use to distinguish themselves from their competition, and in many cases also providing financial advantage, helping organizations to realize efficiencies and improve performance.”
Since these standards have been revised to meet the needs of today’s business world, we recommend that you update your quality and environment management system to fit the new version - ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. A three year transition period has been agreed for moving to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 for the already certified organisations.

ISO 9000 Certification Pay?

from ISO Management Systems
The
study analyse the financial performance data of ISO
9000 QMS certified companies in three US business sectors
over a 10-year period (1988-1997) against that of control
groups of non-certified firms in the same sectors which
had a comparable business performance prior to the launching
of ISO 9000 QMS programmes by the first groups. Did
ISO 9000 QMS make a positive difference to financial
performance ?
They
find that certification does appear to lead to improved
financial performance, measured by... return on assets
(ROA).
Firms
that failed to seek ISO 9001 QMS certification experienced
substantial deteriorations in ROA, productivity, and
sales, while firms that did seek certification generally
managed to avoid such declines.
The
study results suggest that failing to seek ISO 9001
QMS certification contributes to gradually worsening
performance.
After
deciding to seek their first ISO 9000 QMS certification,
firms have made changes that, directly or indirectly,
led to relative improvements in ROA, both through superior
cost control and higher sales. |
